Haifoss is located in the Þjórsárdalur Valley in South Iceland, near the volcano Hekla. It’s about a two-hour drive from Reykjavik, making it accessible for a day trip if you're based in the capital. The waterfall is situated near the Hekla volcano, offering a dramatic backdrop of rugged landscapes and volcanic terrain.
Reaching Haifoss involves a bit of an adventure. The last part of the journey to the waterfall is on a rough gravel road, which can be challenging, especially for standard cars. While a 4x4 vehicle is recommended, many visitors manage with regular cars in good weather conditions by driving carefully. Once you reach the parking area, there’s a short walk to the viewpoint that overlooks the waterfall and the canyon below.
